Romantic Hair

I love long long hair... I think it is a luxury that only a few woman get to experience and even fewer are willing to care for even if they have the genes to be able to grow it.  It does beg the question though with riding... how can it be secured in a beautiful and yet fashionable elegant way when we are riding ...or not...

Here are a few inspiring ideas:

Love the swirls

..and look what the addition of a simple french braid accent does.
Not your basic bun!

This is an antique garnet hair comb circa 1880. I WANT!!

I have very long hair. It's almost to my butt. It's completely pin strait and even with all the expensive hairspray (my mother is a hairdresser) it only does one thing: be strait!!! Keeping it in a ponytail is exhausting because it slides out even with the goody stay elastics, leaving it down ensures no matter what the weather that it will become a matted mess and curling it or pinning it up is impossible. I deal with it day to day by tying it in a bun.

See I have the opposite of the person who commented above me... Long wavy hair that won't stay straight no matter how hard I try, that will stay braided without even needing a ponytail holder, and requires two ponytail holders to hold it up in a ponytail simply because it is so thick and heavy. I love it and I just leave it in a low ponytail under my helmet, although I'm probably going to have to cut it a little if I get to show with my IHSA team at all, in order to do the "hunter hair" thing - there are no compromises with buns on our team. Only perfect hunter hair.

Hi, Julie. I'm a longtime reader but I'm pretty sure this is my first comment.
Anyway, I'm also a longtime rider and industry professional, and my hair actually has been compared many, many times to the hair on the Empress in that photo you posted- length, color, texture... I even kind of look like her.
My hair falls to mid-thigh, so even in a single braid (so it fits under my helmet!) I sit on the last few inches of it. In a show, there's some pretty elaborate French braiding going on to make sure my helmet still fits. I wind up with two braids coming out being my ears (like pigtail braids), and they get pinned and twisted into a small bun... and the tails of the braids hide inside my show coat!!

Thanks so much for being such a faithful poster, and since I also do historical reenactment I definitely appreciate your insight!
