In honor of my little decoupage project..lets talk about gloves this week.
Emily Post - An article on Etiquette ~ 1922
"...Correct riding clothes are not fashion but form! Whether coat skirts are long or short, full or plain, and waists wasp-like or square, the above admonitions have held for many decades, and are likely to hold for many more.
Gloves must be of heavy leather and at least two sizes bigger than those ordinarily worn...
...And if you want to see a living example of perfection in riding clothes, go to the next horse-show where Miss Belle Beach is riding and look at her!"
The Queen of Etiquette herself, Emily Post advises that gloves are to be worn, without exception when women ride!

Gloves-the perfect "finish" to just about any outfit other than super casual on a hot day. BEAUTIFUL glove box.
Time was, no lady was out and about without gloves. Oh, the overwhelming informality of these times....
I have to confess that I wear gloves all the time when I am working with my horses - mainly because I want to avoid calluses. Of course, they are work gloves, not the fancy type!! LOL
This may sound weird, but I never ride or drive without gloves. I just have some cheapie string with leather palms for messing around and I had a pair of black leather for parades, etc. I just like how I feel I have more "grip" with gloves on and more secure.
Ah -- the niceties of prior eras.
I, too, wear gloves when longeing and riding my horse. To prevent rope burns and, as already stated, to prevent calluses and improve grip.
I love the SSG all-weather gloves that come in a variety of colors and patterns. One trip through the washing machine and my zebra stripes look like new!
