Glove Box

So I started with a cigar box. My husband has several of these since he knows someone who sells cigars.

This is what it looks like on the inside. It smells divine!

My first chore was to remove all the stickers. Peel what I can off first and then use a Brillo pad with a small amount of water, scrubbing ever so lightly. That took care of the rest.

I ran off some of my favorite decoupage pictures to print. I chose some big - some small and used a Victorian font to type out Glove Box. I laid them on the box in a way that appealed to me.

Then I glued them down. I used Elmers glue mixed with water. 3/4 glue 1/4 water mix.

I bought this at Hobby Lobby. I had never used it before.....yeah - it made my decoupage buckle so badly, I had to scrape it of and start over...GRRRR!

So here is my second try...

This time I glued down my pictures and waited for them to dry. Then I painted a coat of glue over the pictures and let that dry before applying the Triple Thick.

I was pleased with it. I know I will make others though.....I want to try to paint a box and then decoupage over it and see how that comes out...but for now, I have a glove box that I will use in February...my next show!

Hey Julie, and you were worried about how it would look!!! It's stunning!!! that cigar box you sent me is currently being allowed to dry, I painted the outside black, the inside a bright red and the edges of the inside gold. Next on my to do is find a picture that has to do with knitting and c\decoupoge it on there as my mom is an avid knitter and I thought this would be something she could store a coule of her shorter needle sets in. thanks again for sending me that box!!! I'll send pics asap
