NTASHA - Part 5

Steeped in tradition...that is what I think about when I think of both showing American Saddlebreds and showing aside. I believe that is one reason I was so nervous about showing for the first time. I just wanted to do it with dignity. In keeping with that thought, this is the photograph I will be using for the ad that will be run in Saddle and Bridle magazine in November. As you can see, it will be done with a sepia finish.

When I selected certain things to use for my show, I chose to wear a Cameo ring belonging to my Mother, a Garnet pin belonging to my Grandmother and I tucked a beautiful lace handkerchief into the offside pocket in my saddle that belonged to both.

I hope you enjoyed my journey. My deepest wish is that maybe my adventures will encourage someone else to learn this amazingly elegant sport and share their experience with me!

I'm going to disagree with the other posters. You might want to reconsider putting out an ad until your form is much better. That photo makes you look like you are sitting sideways. As you know, you should be sitting with your shoulders square to the horse. This is only your first show. You can wait to brag.

Anonymous post, while it may look like Julie's position is off I think it might be partly the camera angle. I do think she should run the ad and the sepia tone finish to the photo is so evocative of timelessness that I really think the "art" will overcome whatever perceived "flaws" there might be. Example, in the late 70's I showed a grand prix jumper in an outdoor arena with the setting sun behind it. We have a spectacular shot of a 5x5 triple with the sun illuminating my outline and my horse's chestnut coat turning it to copper flame. In all these years no one has noticed or commented that one foot was "home" in the stirrup.

In response to Anonymous..once a year I earn a free ad from the magazine I write for. Everyone who knows me understands that I am only a beginner...and a beginner who has to show against astride riders at that.

Thank you for being so diligent in pointing out my faults. I have a list of things that I must work on and body position is one of them.

If I do not use my ad, I lose it and the last time I checked my Bible..there is no guarantee for tomorrow..so I think I will use them as I earn them!

I agree! I think you looked wonderful despite what some anonymous posters think. (and IMHO if you are going to post a comment like that you shouldn't hide behind an "anonymous" name).

It's all a learning process and for the amount of lessons you've had and the things you've been through this year, it's been an uphill battle and you're doing great! I say brag away!! The most important thing is that you enjoyed yourself!
