The Black Glove Rule
A lady never wears black gloves ... with one exception; when she is in mourning. After a certain amount of time, she can move from wearing all black to grey / mauve and then later back to her normal wardrobe. It was not common, as it is today to just wear black because it looks good. It was a clear social symbol of mourning.

I love black gloves. Most of my wardrobe is black. I'm just lazy regarding fashion. When I was a kid, my mother would say "what color would you like?". "Black!" She'd say "Nice little girls don't wear black." "Then I'd like navy blue." She'd say "I'll get you something appropriate." And I'd get white blouses with lace collars and - gaaag- pink. (I actually look very good in pink.) I'm not a goth or vampire, I just always liked black.
My Mother used to tell me that 'pink liked me'.. that was her nice way of saying that the end of the argument was over! ha ha ..
