Meet Patti Strauch. She is the one who invited me to participate in Frontier Day with Oliver. I met Patti when she came to see me show at SASHA in Beorne TX. after reading about it on my blog.
Patti wore a beautiful classic riding habit with an apron and top hat. I am waiting for her to write back and tell me more details of it.. since I did not write them down last weekend.
I chose to wear this habit.. one you have seen me in many times before, because it was the closest thing I had that would have represented the time period of post Civil War years. Both Patti and I suffered a bit for our love of this sport as each of us was dawned in wool and although it was a dry heat.. temperatures did get into the 90's that day!
I referenced before how Oliver saw many new sights and sounds... well, this was his typical body position ALL DAY LONG! No matter though - he was such a good boy, I did not fuss with him too much....
.. because how was I to know how he would react to hearing this for the first time...
..or seeing this?
Just before the event was to end, I walked Oliver back to the barn for a rest. Patti and I had just enough time to wander the grounds and see the other exhibits.
..as you can see from these next photos - this was a valuable historic and agricultural show that made learning lots of fun.. for both children and adults!
