HATS!

Let's talk about sidesaddle hats! Starting with the what I call the classics...or what you would see today inside the show ring.

If you were coming to see me show, I might be wearing a derby like this one...

..or a modern top hat like this. By modern, I mean that it is not as tall as the antique riding top hats. It is made from either beaver or silk and usually comes with an astronomical price tag!...but ohhh so beautiful!

Here are 2 older classics. This is a velvet hunt cap that is not designed for protection and an antique top hat.

Just stunning - don't you think?

When I groomed for a driving team part of my formal livery was a top hat. The one that fit me best was an 1890s tall top hat much like the one in your picture! I've always loved the allure of wearing a top hat to ride in the classics but alas, I must wear a certified helmet. Love the hat pics! I saw a gorgeous tan Saddleseat bowler on eBay the other night and thought of you :)

I love hats. I wish I had kept my old velvet hunt cap. Worthless for protection but still part of the allure of riding.

They are so lovely. What an elegant style this discipline has

I love hats! I think that's part of why I love sidesaddle so much. Perhaps I didn't get to play "dress up" enough when I was little!
I found a navy blue top hat to go with my habit (it's a shorter-ish one) and I had a wonderful lady make me an oldfashioned edwardian type hat for my other costume. Love it!

Mmmm I have so many hats for driving. I would love one like the one in the second picture there.

That is my favorite, too. I remember those old velvet helmets. Mine never fit right(hand-down) and I hated it.

Im afraid my hunting cap is faded out like the one pictured lol Its been a long time since I showed, but the GPA is the new H/J helmet must. They start at over $500. - havent bit the bullet yet to purchase one...

I love the derbys, but the tophat with the veil is exquisite!

gowestferalwoman: GPAs are great! I love mine; it fits me perfectly and stays relatively cool. Charles Owen helmets are the current "it" helmet but GPAs are certainly not faux pas. They fit totally different though. Tried on some COs this weekend and it was awful.
